Embracing Individual Needs

Buckswood personalizes learning (PEN) for all students, meeting each child’s unique needs with support and enrichment.
At Buckswood School, we recognize each child’s unique talents and strive to help them reach their full potential, even if they have personal learning needs. We follow statutory guidelines, including the ‘Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years’ and the Equalities Act 2010, but with a distinctive Buckswood approach. We refer to ‘Special Educational Needs’ as ‘Personal Educational Needs’ (PEN), supporting each child’s individual needs through personalized plans.
Parents are encouraged to inform us if their child requires additional support or is gifted. Before arrival, we gather information from various sources to implement effective strategies from day one. Our Educational Support Team can arrange meetings with parents, previous schools, or other professionals to ensure comprehensive support.

We use a cyclical approach of assess, plan, do, and review.

Upon arrival, students undergo assessments to identify needs, and teachers work closely with the SENCO to provide tailored support. Action plans involve setting targets and offering necessary support, whether in-class or through additional lessons. Regular reviews and ongoing assessments ensure the effectiveness of these plans.
Our holistic approach ensures that parents and students are heard, fostering confidence and success for all students.
